Remembering

remember“Therefore remember from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first; or else I am coming to you and will remove your lampstand out of its place—unless you repent.” Revelation 2:5

What’s your first love? If you’re a Christian, especially a Christian leader, you know what the answer should be. But living the answer is something else.

“Nothing between my soul and my Savior,
So that His blessed face may be seen;
Nothing preventing the least of His favor;
Keep the way clear! Let nothing between.”
– Pastor Charles Tindly

It’s hard to talk about. In fact, it makes a person uncomfortable. However, in order to come to grips with the issue, it is necessary. If not, the enemy of our souls wins, the Lover of our souls grieves, and our soul loses.

The question is, “Is Christ first?” First in my heart … first on my mind … first in my time … first in my devotion … first in my service … first in my finances, is He FIRST?

If it were measured by performance, only a delusional person would say, “Yes.” Thankfully, God does not measure it by our works, but by living faith. A heartfelt faith that remembers … remembers from where we have fallen … remembers what the Father sacrificed … remembers what Christ suffered … remembers what we once were, and remembers that He has loved us unto death … living faith born of genuine repentance and a good memory. It’s the truth, remembering is the best way to keep Christ first.
