Audience of #1
“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my rock and my Redeemer.” Psalms 19:14
Before delivering a sermon or message, many pastors and ministry leaders have prayed this verse. It is fitting. It is also a fitting prayer for anyone preparing a message. Preparing for an audience of One is critical. For many of us, words come easy. Sometimes too easy. For others, it can be a struggle. And as good as trusted commentaries can be, the value of spending time in heartfelt prayer, meditation, and study can’t be overstated.
“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15) Wanting the words of our mouth and the meditation of our hearts to be pleasing, acceptable in God’s sight is of utmost importance. It’s the assurance that our preaching/teaching will be effective. “O Lord, my Rock, my Redeemer, I sincerely desire Your acceptance of my words and heart’s meditation. Amen.”
