ON GUARD

“You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of unprincipled men and fall from your own steadfastness,” 2 Peter 3:17.

In the sport of fencing, the French phrase ‘en garde’ (on guard) means prepare to defend yourself. To not take it seriously, is to be vulnerable to defeat. Success demands you heed the warning.

In a culture of mocking and lustful living, Peter knew how important it was to be prepared for Christ’s Second Coming. We know this too. We are surrounded by false doctrines, immorality, and mocking. To followers of Christ, the words, on guard, meant something then and they should mean something now... be prepared, be ready, be alert, be awake!

As shepherds of God’s flock, we minister in a culture of mocking and lustful living. we must protect the flock. Like Peter, we must preach and teach the Truths of God’s Word. Those, who take heed, will remain steadfast, as they recognize and reject the errors of unprincipled men.
