Daniel-like
“But Daniel made up his mind that he would not defile himself… Now God granted Daniel favor and compassion in the sight of the commander of the officials,” Daniel 1:8a, 9.
Compromising Biblical convictions isn’t anything new, but it sure seems to have picked up speed in the church and culture at large. That’s why I appreciate Daniel’s life and witness more than ever. He made up his mind that he would not defile himself. His beliefs were firmly held. It wasn’t a spur of the moment decision. These were convictions.
All of us have heard the Sunday School song, “Dare To Be A Daniel”. The lyrics are a great teaching tool. Better yet is the example of adults, who have made up their minds to not defile themselves. Leaders, young and old, who, like Daniel and his friends, have decided to rest their case in the hands of God. “If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire; and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we are not going to serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.” Dan. 3:17-18
Today, while the majority are bowing down to false gods, with our minds made up, like these young men, may the example of our leadership glorify God and encourage others to stand.
Dare to be a Daniel, Dare to stand alone!
Dare to have a purpose firm! Dare to make it known.
